Day 1

Australia Ulaanbaatar

Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia. Transfer to your hotel for the evening.

Day 2

Ulaanbaatar Baga Gazriin Chuluu

Travel for 240 kms (5-6 hours) to the picturesque mountain city of Baga Gazriin Chuluu. The town has an elevation of 1,751 metres and is located in the Granite Belt of Mongolia.

Day 3

Baga Gazriin Chuluu Tsagaan Suvarga

Today you'll continue your travels for 240kms (5-6 hours) to Tsagaan Suvarga, a stunning area of white limestone formation about 30 metres high and created over thousands of years by natural wind.

Day 4

Tsagaan Suvarga Yol Valley

In the morning you will be driven to Yol Valley, otherwise known as Lammergeier's Gorge, about 220kms (5-6 hours). This scenic location is nestled between the beautiful peaks of the Gurvan Saikhan Mountain and shelters rich wildlife. Visit the Gobi Museum and hike through the valley itself.

Day 5

Yol Valley Khongor Sand Dune

Travel to Khongor Sand Dunes, also known as the Singing Sand Dunes, for 180kms (4-5 hours). These dunes are up to 200 metres high, 15 kilometres wide and 180 kilometres long. During the afternoon you will visit a nomad family and have a chance to see nomadic life in the Gobi. You'll have the opportunity to taste traditional dairy products made of camel milk, and there will even be a chance for an optional camel ride (at own expense). We will end the day with a walk through the Golden Sand Dunes, boasting incredible views once you approach the top.

Day 6

Khongor Bayanzag

Continue travel to Bayanzag for 170kms (4 hours). Here you will see a saksaul forest in the Gobi desert amidst red flaming cliffs. These cliffs were formed by the erosion of sand and rock over many thousands of years and is the place where dinosaurs lived 70 million years ago. This site is internatinoally famous for its dinosaur remains of complete skeletons, eggs and hatchlings of the Cretaceous Period.

Day 7

Bayanzag Temple Ruin of Ongi

Travel to the Ongi Temples for 140km (3 hours). Walk along the area where the ruins are situated. Stay overnight in Ger camp.

Day 8

Temple Ruin of Ongi Orkhon Valley

Travel to Orkhon Valley for 240kms (5-6 hours). Today you will leave Gobi and enter the mountain and steppe zone.

Day 9

Orkhon Valley Tsenkher Hot Spring

Travel to Tsenkher Hot Spring for 120kms (4 hours). The hot spring has water at over 86.5 degrees Celsius and is very popular in the area. On the way you will hike for 2-3 hours to the Tuvkhun monastery. Continue travel to Tsenkher Hot Spring. Enjoy taking a hot spring bath.

Day 10

Tsenkher Hot Spring Kharakhorum

Travel to Kharakhorum, 110kms (2.5 hours). Kharakhorum was once the ancient capital of Mongolia where Chinggis Khaan established his headquarters in the 13th century. Visit the Kharakhorum Historical Museum and the Erdenezuu monastery, the largest and first Mongolian Buddhist temple complex built on the remains of Kharakhorum city in the 16th century. You will then visit a local cooperative to attend a workshop for making small felt items.

Day 11

Kharakhorum Gurvanbulag

Travel to Gurvanbulag county in the Bulgan province for 110kms (2.5 hours), where you will encounter nomad herders up close and personally. Naturally this area is a great combination of mountain, rolling steppe and Gobi-type landscapes. You will be welcomed at Community Ger Camp, and in the afternoon you will enjoy horseback riding through the countryside. You will have an opportunity to learn some traditional sport games and activities such as archery shooting, Knuckle Bone Shooting and Shagai playing.

Day 12

Gurvanbulag

In the morning you will visit a nomad family and learn more about their traditional lifestyle. Activities include milking animals, processing dairy products and making traditional food. Enjoy local hospitality and learn about the special training of fast horses. In the afternoon, hike to a neighbouring mountain and accompanying sand dunes (7-8kms). You will watch how skilful Mongolian skilful cowboys catch horses by "uurga" - a traditional wooden lasso used in training an untamed horse that has never been ridden before. Optional horseback riding will be available (at own expense). For dinner you will have "Khorkhog", a real Mongolian barbeque, grilled with hot stones.

Day 13

Khustai National Park

Travel to Khustai National Park, 200kms (5 hours), which encompasses an area of 50 hectares and is the habitat or resurrected wild Mongolian horses, popularly known as Takhi (Przewalski's Horse). After lunch, explore the park to see the Takhi horses in the wilderness.

Day 14

Terelj National Park

Travel to Terelj National park for 140km (3.5 hours), via the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar city. On the way you will visit the giant statue of Chinggis Khaan. After lunch you'll continue on your way to Terelj. Visit the landmark of the area titled "Turtle Rock" and the local temple, Aryabal.

Day 15

Terelj Ulaanbaatar

Today you will embark on your travels back to the city of Ulaanbaatar for 65kms (2 hours). Arrive at the capital and transfer to your hotel. Shopping will be available for cashmere and souvenirs. Enjoy a farewell dinner.
