Day 1

Australia Madrid, Spain

Today your journey begins with a departure from either Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide or Perth for Madrid!

Day 2

Madrid

Welcome to Madrid! Upon arrival a private transfer will be provided. Your driver will be waiting for you at arrival hall to take you to your hotel and provide all the local information of the area you will be staying at and how to get around to the historic city centre.

In the evening, a transfer will be provided to the Egyptian Debod temple, Plaza de Espana and Gran Via; a vibrant district for you to explore the magical ancient city. You will have the chance to try out some typical Spanish dinner (own expense) before returning to the hotel.

Day 3

Madrid City Tour

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and then begin your discovery of Madrid with your local specialist which showcases the city's vibrant centre, the beautiful Plaza Mayor (Main Square), its broad and magnificent avenues and its many fountains. You'll have a chance to visit the landmark sights that includes the Plaza de Toros de las Ventas (entrance included) and followed by a walking tour of the beautiful Retiro Park enhanced by the lake and Crystal Palace. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your leisure. If you wish why not try the optional visit to the Royal Palace (entrance not included). In the evening, you'll be transferred to the Plaza de Oriente in the historic centre of Madrid where you'll have time for dinner (own expense).

Day 4

Madrid Zaragoza Poblet Montserrat Barcelona

You will depart early in the morning from Madrid towards Aragon whilst briefly stopping in Zaragoza. You will stop by at the Basilica del Pilar, the universal symbol of Zaragoza whilst visiting this impressive sanctuary. Directly afterwards, you will have free time in the city centre to explore the city's emblematic building, the La Lonja Palace or the San Salvador Cathedral. Later, you'll make our way to Cataluna to the Monastery of Poblet, surrounded by beautiful defensive walls. This is one of the best preserved medieval monasteries in the world (entrance and guided tour included). You then go onto the Monastery of Montserrat where a ride on the rack train is included for the fantastic views into Barcelona. Continue to Barcelona for an estimated late afternoon arrival.

Important note: In the winter months, from November to March (included), due to the shorter days, the Monastery of Poblet will not be visited (so as to reach Montserrat in the daylight).

Day 5

Barcelona

Following breakfast, you will get to know Barcelona - an impressive city right on the Mediterranean Sea. You will meet your local expert for a fantastic sightseeing city tour of the historic central area with its Gothic neighbourhood dating back to the Middle Ages. You will also visit the area where the Olympic Games took place where it will be possible to see and photograph La Sagrada Familia Basilica; the masterpiece designed by the architect Gaudi. Subsequently, included is entry to "Poble Espanyol" (meaning "Spanish Village"). This open air architectural museum is situated in one of the most emblematic areas of Barcelona. Be delighted by the best Spanish craftmanship and discover the architectural styles, traditions and folklore of the different communities in Spain. You will have some free time to explore the city on your own.

Day 6

Barcelona Peniscola Valencia

After breakfast you will leave Barcelona and travel south along the Mediterranean and will make a special stop at the popular town of Peniscola which is superbly surrounded by the sea. The entrance to the old town is through one of two gateways through its medieval walls. After a short introduction given by our guide you can explore the old town and its castle, fishing port and beaches.

Afterwards you will travel to the third largest Spanish city, Valencia, where you will see the most important modern tourist site in Valencia, "The City of Arts and Sciences". You'll walk through the historic city and your guide will accompany you to the Cathedral where they claim the Holy Grail from which Christ sipped during the Last Supper.

In the evening, you will be transferred to the Plaza de Toros area for dinner (own expense) and can enjoy the arena followed by return transport back to the hotel.

Day 7

Valencia Alicante Caravaca de la Cruz Granada

After breakfast you continue south through the Valencia Community towards Alicante, one of the country's most influenced by tourism thanks to its nearby airport and resorts along the Spanish Coast. Time for a stroll along this pleasant city by the sea.

In the afternoon you'll make your way to the Murcia Region where you'll visit Caravaca de la Cruz, a town considered by the Catholic Church as one of the five holy cities in the world which also subsequently has a church which holds a relic of Christ's Cross. Included is a ride up to the historic areas on the tourist train.

Shortly after, you will carry on along an attractive scenic road to Andalusia where you'll arrive at the end of the day in Granada.

Day 8

Granada

After breakfast, join a local guide to tour Granada's famed Moorish palace, the Alhambra Palace (entrance included), a spectacular UNESCO World Heritage site.

Spend the free afternoon seeing the Cathedral with the sepulchre of the Catholic Kings.

Later, enjoy an evening transfer to the Plaza de Gracia where restaurants mix with local cultural flavor to create an unforgettable night. After dinner (own expense), why not attend an optional activity - a flamenco dance show and the traditional neighbourhood of Sacramonte.

Note: in the Alhambra complex, the Nazari palaces allow a limited number of people in at a time. If in the event that we are not able to the visit the area of Alhambra, a visit to the Alcázares will be included in Seville (which have a similar architecture and features).

Day 9

Granada Malaga Marbella Ronda Seville

After breakfast depart Granada for Malaga. Upon arrival, you will have a quick stop to stroll along the historic centre with its cathedral and the Picasso Museum. After that, you will continue a scenic drive along the coastal motorway with beautiful views of the Mediterranean. Puerto Banus, in Marbella, a pretty high level recreational port. After lunch (own expense), you will continue through the hills and their stories of bandoliers until we come to Ronda, a very beautiful white town with its large gorge that divides it in two. Shortly afterwards you'll continue to Seville where you'll arrive at the end of the afternoon.

Day 10

Seville

After breakfast, a local expert guides you through a scenic visit of Seville featuring the Cathedral and its famous Giralda, the banks of the Guadalquivir River, popular neighbourhoods of Santa Cruz and Triana and the beautiful Plaza de España. (Note: If the group has fewer than fifteen travellers, it can be arranged in both Spanish and English). Enjoy leisure time straight afterwards. At the end of the afternoon, you will go to the historic city centre area (Calle Alfonso XII) where many different restaurants can be found. You can choose your favourite cuisine: Indian, Halal, Chinese, Spanish, International, and so on.

Day 11

Seville Rabida Monastery Mertola Evora Lisbon

You'll leave Seville and in the province of Huelva, you'll travel to Palos De La Frontera. Entrance is included into the Carabelas Museum; this is where Columbus set sail on 3 August 1492 for America. You will see the Rabida Monastery, declared a World Heritage site, a Franciscan monastery strongly linked to the history of the discovery (entrance included). After this you'll travel to Portugal. Mertola, a stop in this ancient Muslim city, its present church was a mosque, and time for lunch. After this, through white villages you'll come to Evora city. Declared a World Heritage site with its wide streets, its Renaissance policies and its cathedral, included is the entrance to the impressive Chapel of Bones, built with 5000 skeletons! Lisbon, arrival at the end of the day.

Day 12

Lisbon

In the morning you have a sightseeing tour with a local guide. Visit traditional neighbourhoods, which take in the Belem district, which is the birthplace of the great Portuguese navigators who sailed the oceans in the Fifteenth Century. Discover the Monument to the Discoveries, Belem Tower, and enter the beautiful Jeronimos Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the Belem neighbourhood, you are invited to try a “Belem cake”, an exquisite local delicacy. The afternoon is free so that you can explore this great city independently.    

 Tonight, night transportation to Restauradores Square is included, which is full of atmosphere with its bars and cafes from where you're suggested to take the ¨Elevador da Gloria¨ that brings you to the Upper district and its viewpoint.

Day 13

Lisbon Fatima Madrid

Today, travel to the north of Portugal and visit Fatima, an important sanctuary. You'll continue on your way through the green lands of the centre, passing into Spain, and over grasslands crossing the North of Extremadura. Lunch included en route in a regional food restaurant. Continuation to Madrid. Arrival at the end of the day.
