Tulip season in the Netherlands is an absolutely breathtaking sight! Are you ready to be amazed?

Begin your adventure with a flight to Amsterdam and transfer to hop aboard the Monarch Duchess for your spectacular river cruise. The first stop on the map is Nijmegen, the oldest town in the Netherlands. Enjoy the outdoor cafes and cozy restaurants before setting sail to Antwerp and the historic Flanders port of Ghent. Next, visit the Delta Works storm barrier, which is considered a technical miracle standing at six miles long! As you sail towards Rotterdam, you'll have an opportunity to experience the beautiful Keukenhof Gardens, where a sea of multicoloured tulips stretches out over the flat Dutch landscape as far as the eye can see. Visit the windmill park in Kinderdijk, before heading to Amsterdam, where you can board a glass-top boat and cruise the incredible winding canals. For the second leg of this trip, fly to Venice and visit the seaside town of Opatija, rich in history and picturesque surroundings. Walk the cobbled streets of Split to the 4th century Palace of Diocletian and tour the magnificent Dubrovnik declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As your adventure draws closer to the end, make pit stops in Zagreb and Bled before flying back to Australia!

Day 1

Australia Amsterdam

Your adventure starts today with your flight to Amsterdam.

Day 2

Amsterdam

Arrive in Amsterdam and transfer to the port. Embarkation begins at 2 pm. After arrival formalities, time to relax on board. Tonight, meet your Cruise Director and enjoy a gala welcome dinner, which sets the mood for your delightful river cruise. The Monarch Duchess is a first class river cruise vessel. Built in 2010, with a maximum capacity of 136 passengers, the ship features 64 spacious cabins and 4 suites each fully air-conditioned with private bath facilities, shower, telephone and flat-screen satellite TV.

Nijmegen

The ship docks in Nijmegen, the oldest town in the Netherlands with its beautiful river landscapes and magnificent historic buildings. Uncover traces of the city’s past on a walking tour, before roaming the unique shops, outdoor cafes and cozy restaurants on your own. The ship sails this evening to Antwerp, Belgium.

Day 4

Antwerp

Today you arrive in Antwerp, one of Europe's largest and most historic port cities, where more than half of the world's diamonds are traded. Evidence of the wealth produced from trade during the 16th century can be seen in the opulent homes that line the city streets. The tour of the city begins at the Cathedral of Our Lady, the highest Gothic building in the Low Countries and continues to the unique marketplace, surrounded by the mighty Renaissance Town hall and numerous guild halls. Rest of the day is at leisure in Antwerp, or return to the ship for a relaxing afternoon on board.

Day 5

Ghent

Discover the historic Flanders port of Ghent today, a showcase of Flemish wealth. Your tour of this medieval city includes views of the 7th century St. Bavo's Cathedral and the imposing Gravensteen Castle. At the town centre. View the gigantic Belfry, a symbol of the city’s independence and the Gothic-style Cloth Hall, glorifying the city’s major industry. Return to the ship or take an optional afternoon tour to Bruges, also known as the “Venice of the North” and home to some of Europe’s best preserved medieval buildings. Here, view the Lake of Love (Minnewater), the Beguinage Convent and walk along the picturesque winding cobbled alleys and romantic canals.

Bruges City Tour

Day 6

Delta Works

A fascinating excursion this morning to the Delta Works. After the 1953 flood in the Netherlands, where more than 1800 people drowned in one night, the Delta Plan was created to prevent a disaster of this magnitude from ever happening again. Taking 30 years to complete, the storm flood barrier, almost six miles long, stands as the final defense in the battle against the water and is considered a technical miracle. Rejoin the ship for lunch and continue cruising this afternoon towards Rotterdam where the ship will remain docked overnight.

Day 7

Keukenhof Gardens and Kinderdijk

Depart early this morning for beautiful Keukenhof Gardens, the largest and most spectacular flower gardens in the world, where a sea of multicoloured tulips stretches out over the flat Dutch landscape as far as the eye can see. Rejoin the ship in Rotterdam for lunch on board. This afternoon visit a windmill park in the small village of Kinderdijk on the north bank of the River Noord. The windmills, built in the 1700s, are still in use today and played a vital role in the development of the country. During this excursion, visit a windmill and learn more about modern technology that is now replacing their existence.

Day 8

Amsterdam

Awake this morning in Amsterdam, one of the greatest small cities in the world, with its world-famous museums and historical sites. Today's panoramic tour of 700-year-old Amsterdam introduces you to both the old and the new sections of this city. View the Royal Palace on Amsterdam's Dam Square, the Queen's official home-away-from-home. On to the Dutch National Monument dedicated by Queen Juliana as a memorial to the victims of WWII and to the unusual Skinny Bridge, once so narrow that pedestrians could not pass each other. Then, board a glass-top boat and cruise the winding canals for an up-close view of the stately historic homes, 16th-century warehouses and charming churches with striking bell towers. Rejoin the ship for lunch on board, and spend a leisurely afternoon in Amsterdam. Later, rejoin the ship for tonight’s Farewell Dinner as you cruise to Amsterdam. Day 9

Amsterdam  Venice

This morning, disembark up to 9.30am and transfer to the airport for your departure flight. 

Arrive in Venice and transfer to your hotel in the seaside town of Opatija. A gem on Croatia's Adriatic coast, nestled along the striking Gulf of Kvarner. The afternoon is at leisure to explore the town on your own. Perhaps take a stroll along the "Lungo Mare" seafront and enjoy beautiful views of the Gulf, sheltered by soaring mountains. Tonight, Welcome Drink and Dinner with your fellow travellers, followed by an orientation meeting with your Tour Manager on the journey that awaits you in Croatia and Slovenia.

Day 10

Opatija

Enjoy a full day at leisure in the seaside town of Opatija, with its rich history, picturesque surroundings and gorgeous beaches, once a gathering spot for the Austro-Hungarian nobility. Alternatively, join an optional tour to the Istrian Peninsula that begins in Pula, a strategic port since the times of the ancient Romans. Afterwards, the tour continues to the resort town of Rovinj. Tonight, return to Opatija and explore the charming town with its wealth of fine seafood restaurants.

Istrian Peninsula - Begin with an orientation tour of Pula, a strategic port since the times of the ancient Romans. Visit a Roman Amphitheater, the sixth largest of its kind to be preserved in the world today. Afterwards, proceed to the beautiful resort town of Rovinj where you will enjoy free time exploring the old town and its narrow lanes before returning to Opatija. Approximate tour duration is 8 hours.

Day 11

Zadar and Split

Depart today for a long drive along the dramatic Adriatic coast to Split. En route stop at the historic old town of Zadar; highlighted by ruins of a Roman forum, medieval churches, cosmopolitan cafes and museums. This city is a wonderful combination of beautiful Roman architecture, Habsburg elegance, and a picture-perfect seafront. View the Cathedral and St. Donat Church before driving to the UNESCO protected seaside town of Split, the second largest city in Croatia. Upon arrival, in the early evening, enjoy a leisurely stroll along the scenic waterfront promenade.

Day 12

Dubrovnik

Walk along the cobbled streets of the Old Town featuring the historic inner city with its dominating Roman influence, built around the astonishing 4th century Palace of Diocletian. This spectacular palace is the largest and best preserved Roman palace in the world, built for Emperor Diocletian, representing a precious example of Roman architecture. See the remains of the Roman Peristyle, the unusual Cathedral of St. Domnius built in the Middle Ages, and the Temple of Jupiter, with its headless black sphinx guarding the entrance. Spend time discovering the town independently before continuing along the coast to the spectacular walled city of Dubrovnik where you will have the opportunity to see the amazing views of this city known as the "Pearl of the Adriatic". Tonight, enjoy dinner at your hotel.

Day 13

Dubrovnik

Enjoy the many delights of Dubrovnik today. The city's splendid medieval ramparts are considered to be one of the most grandiose fortification monuments in Europe, and its magnificent Old Town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The walking tour of "Old Dubrovnik" highlights the city's treasures within the 800-year-old walls including the Rector's Palace, an outstanding blend of Gothic and Renaissance architecture and the monumental Sponza Palace, preserved with its original beauty. Under the City Bell Tower on Luza Square stands Orlando's Tower, dedicated to the knight that saved the city in the 9th century. Continue to the Dominican Monastery, whose museum is a major treasury of culture and to the Franciscan Monastery with exhibits from the world's third oldest functioning pharmacy. The rest of the day is yours to wander the never-ending lanes of the Old Town. Tonight, attend the optional Home-Hosted Dinner at Dubelj. Visit the Dubelj family home, where things are still done the old-fashioned way. The owner will show you the traditional method of making olive oil, using a horse-driven mill. Afterwards, taste local cheese along with Dalmatian prosciutto and exchange views with your host family over a traditional three-course meal.

Home-Hosted Dinner at Dubelj - Depart Dubrovnik and head north, to the bucolic village of Orašac. Here, visit the Dubelj family home, a rustic estate where things are still done the old-fashioned way. The owner will show you the traditional method of making olive oil, using a horse-driven mill. Afterwards, taste local cheese along with Dalmatian prosciutto and exchange views with your host family over a traditional three-course meal. An unforgettable experience! Approximate tour duration is 2.5 hours

Day 14

Vodice

This morning, enjoy a scenic drive north to the quaint Dalmatian village of Pakovo Selo. After a light lunch, continue towards the breathtaking Krka National Park. Admire the lake and waterways at one of Croatia's most famous sights, including Skradinski Buk Falls, Arrive this evening in Vodice, a small resort town known for its vibrancy, diversity and friendly people. Dinner tonight is at your hotel.

Day 15

Zagreb

Spend the morning travelling inland through wooded mountains and lush vegetation to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. Upon arrival, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Zagreb. View Ban Josip Jelacic square and the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Continue to the medieval section of the Upper Town with its Presidential Palace, Stone Gate, St. Mark’s church and the Pope's tower. The remainder of the day is yours to independently explore this lively city. Perhaps take a leisurely stroll along Ilica Street, packed with restaurants, trendy cafes and a vibrant shopping scene.

Day 16

Bled

This morning, cross into Slovenia and head to the flourishing capital, Ljubljana. A local expert will lead you on a sightseeing tour of the city and its monuments. There will be time for lunch on your own, to soak up the laid-back atmosphere of this refreshing city. Afterwards, view the open-air market, City Hall, Robba Fountain, the Three Bridges, and the Parliament. The journey continues to the spectacular city of Bled, exquisitely set amidst the Julian Alps. The rest of the day is at leisure to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Tonight, perhaps join an optional dinner at a charming Country Inn in the tiny medieval town of Radovljica that includes choices of Slovenian favourites along with wine.

Tour of Radovljica with dinner - This evening, visit the little medieval town of Radovljica and take a short walk through its old section. Later, stop at a popular and traditional country inn. Day 17

Bled

Surrounded by high peaks, Bled has enticed travelers since the mid-19th century for its pure air, magnificent scenery and healing thermal springs. Today, Bled is a sparkling all-seasons resort with delightful hotels, villas, and restaurants nestled on the lakefront. A tour through this charming town continues along the shores of the lake before ascending to imposing Bled Castle, perched on a cliff with soaring views. Enjoy the rest of the day exploring this stunning city on your own. In the afternoon, join the optional tour to Lake Bohinj, with its dense woods and spectacular mountains. Admire the stunning Julian Alps from Mt. Vogel, and sample local Slovenian cheese at the Shephard’s Museum on the return to Bled. Tonight, enjoy a festive Farewell Reception at your hotel with your newfound friends.

Lake Bohinj, the Alpine Beauty - Visit Lake Bohinj, another Alpine beauty beautifully incorporated amidst the dense woods and spectacular mountains.
